This is a beautiful spring tradition and a wonderful way for toddlers to watch the process of new leaves slowly emerging in springtime.
Just before Easter we take a walk in the forest or garden and collect small branches of birch and hazel or other branches that have closed buds. At home, the branches go into a vase and the kids decorate them with small egg ornaments. Over the next days, we watch with excitement as the new leaves slowly emerge.
When the boys were younger I would put small amounts of decorations out at a time and spread the activity out over several days. Now that they are older they are satisfied to do it just once.
