There are some days where the motivation is lacking to go out with the boys, particularly if it is a gloomy and cold day. I find it easier if we have a goal and something to look forward to. Collecting kindling is an achievable low preparation activity and when paired with a thermos of hot chocolate makes for an enjoyable morning in the forest. When we are done we carry our bundle home to keep for another day. This way, even if it has been wet, we can head back to the forest to make a fire for sausages or bread.
